St. Mark, Grenada: The people of the St. Mark community can breathe a sigh of relief now that the flood mitigation work has been completed just in time for the onset of the 2014 hurricane season. The construction will protect the community from the effects of dangerous flooding.

St. George’s Grenada – Unlike previous visits, to the St. Mark Flood Mitigation Project, this visit was critically important as it was the last tour of the site before the Government signs off and issues the certificate of completion to China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) Americas—the company charged with the execution of the flood mitigation works.
CHEC Americas Begins Expansion Of Grenadian Airports

China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) Americas, is ramping up its hiring of locals in the Caribbean, as work on a number of infrastructure development projects across the region are now in high gear. To this end hundreds of Grenadians will soon be employed by CHEC as the company has been engaged by the Grenadian government to expand and upgrade the Lauriston Airport in Carriacou, (the largest island of the Grenadines) and the Maurice Bishop International Airport (MBIA) in St. George’s. Similarly, in the Bahamas, CHEC will be partnering with the Bahamian Government to host a job fair to hire local workers for the ground breaking of the $39 million North Abaco Port project scheduled to begin in two months.
A core team led by Minister of Works Gregory Bowen, CTO Winston Gabriel and other Ministry of Works officials, visited the almost completed Bonaire River flood mitigation project, last week. The purpose of the visit was to inspect the project to ensure that the final stages were going according to plan and schedule. Minister responsible for Works, The Honorable Gregory Bowen, expressed great satisfaction with the quality and timeliness of the project.
It’s not Christmas; the New Year is long gone and it’s not yet Easter… so why are students of the Bonaire Government School receiving gifts of school supplies?
China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC), in collaboration with the Government of Grenada, launched the Flood Mitigation project at the Bonaire River St. Mark, back in May of 2013. Close to 100 St. Mark residents have found direct employment on the project so far and others have benefited in one way or the other, from the indirect spinoffs.
